Global Woman® P.E.A.C.E. Foundation is hosting the 2nd annual “Walk to End FGM”, a 5K Walkathon in Washington, D.C. on Saturday, October 31, 2015. We expect more than double the number of participants from 2014. Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) is a heinous and violent practice that is done to little girls. Female genital mutilation is the intentional removal of the external parts of the female genitalia for non-medical reasons. If you wonder why we are walking in the U.S. against something that is practiced in far-away lands, know that FGM is not only practiced in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. You will be surprised to know that it is practiced right here in the United States and in Europe. The proceeds from this event will benefit The Global Woman Center, opening on June 27, 2015. Foundation. In the same year, the organization received its 501c3 tax exempt status from the Internal Revenue Service under the new name.
