GWPF Welcomes New Member to their Boardroom

The Board of Directors of Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation (GWPF) convened on June 23rd in their mid-year board meeting.  Within an agenda of business, their mid-year meeting is when the board assesses their goals of the first six months, and those accomplished goals.  Although the board does not elect new members and reelect members at their mid-year meeting, they made an exception this year.  They elected a new member at their mid-year meeting last month.  After the required vetting, Dr. W. Wallicia Gill was elected to the Board of Directors of Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation.

Dr. Wallicia Gill is a retired Middle School Principal and Adjunct Professor.  Since retiring from Education, Dr. Gill has worked passionately to support community service initiatives.  She is a member of the Centreville Immigration Forum Human Resources Committee, Centreville-Chantilly Rotary Club, the Northern Virginia Business and Professional Women’s Club, (NOVA BPW) and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.  She is currently writing an article on Teen Sex Trafficking in conjunction with work for Just Ask Prevention, a non-profit that seeks to educate the community on Teen Sex Trafficking.  Dr. Gill completed her undergraduate work at Hampton University, her Master’s work at George Mason University, and an Ed.D in Educational Leadership at Shenandoah University.

When asked why Wallicia is interested in serving on the Board of Directors of Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation, she explained, “All of my life as a teacher, school principal and adjunct professor, I have worked for the welfare of youth.  As a mother of three very successful daughters, I have personally worked to nurture, teach, and model high expectations for how to contribute to our world in a positive way.”  She continued, “Protecting, advocating, and working on behalf of young women who are subjected to violence and abuse is an extension of my desire to help.”

During the vetting process, Dr. Gill told the board of GWPF that her Christian faith teaches that whatever one does for the least of others, one does for God.  She told Global Woman Newsletter, “As a woman of faith working to eliminate FGM and to support those who have suffered harm and injury are important ways to contribute to bettering our world.”  Wife, mother and grandmother of four, Wallicia is an avid reader, enjoys crocheting and even dabbles in photography.  She said, “I wish to help in whatever way I can to bring a bit of sunshine to young women whose lives have known darkness and pain.”

Global Woman Newsletter asked Dr. Gill how she thinks her presence on the board will benefit Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation. (GWPF)  She said, “I earned an Ed.D in Educational Leadership.  This achievement required strong written and oral communication, and analytical skills.  These skills can be beneficial to GWPF.  I have spent years teaching in public schools, and at the university level.  I can use my teaching skills to support training and making presentations on behalf of GWPF.”  She continued, “I am also an amateur photographer and I am willing to use these skills to support preserving the history of the organization.  Lastly, I am a crochet artist, and I can contribute specially made items for fundraising and special events.  Most importantly, I am interested in working in whatever capacity to support the goals, and mission of GWPF.”

Wallicia and Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation are both equally excited about their new relationship.  She has already jumped right in to help with the planning of the upcoming October events, and fundraising.  With her expertise in grant writing and special events, GWPF is confident that Dr. Gill is an exceptional addition to their board room. GWPF congratulates Dr. Wallicia Gill, and welcomes her aboard.
