We are just 2 days away from the Global Woman Awards!  The countdown continues with only 3 days to the 6th #walk2endfgm.   It is not too late to register at www.globalwomanpeacefoundation.org, select the pink “Register to Walk” button, and be a part of an event for a worthy cause. 

When:  2-day event – Friday, October 18th & Saturday, October 19, 2019.

Friday Evening Location: Milken Institute for Public Health at George Washington University, 950 New Hampshire Ave., NW, Washington, D.C. 20052 (2 blocks from Foggy Bottom Metro Station).

Friday Evening Parking:  You can reserve parking in advance at this link https://spothero.com/spot-details/1381 with parking garages within about ¼ of a mile of Milken Institute 

Friday Evening Emcee:  Is no other than the fabulous International Radio Talk Show Host, Tyra (Tyra G) Garlington.  She will wow you and make you laugh.

Friday Attire:  Evening wear, Traditional Attire – after 5:00pm

Friday Evening Itinerary: Arrival and Refreshments at 6:00pm; A Panel Discussion with Dr. Morissanda Kouyate, Shelby Quast, Rahmah Abdulaleem, Chisina Kapungu, Michelle Mitchell, and Dr. Karen McDonnell at 6:30pm; Global Woman Awards at 8:00pm; Silent Auction throughout the evening. Our theme is “Why Laws & Policies are Important in Preventing FGM in the U.S.”  Following the Discussion, our fantastic Award Presenters will introduce each of our Honored Awardees.  This year’s awardees are Dr. Morissanda Kouyate, Representative Thomas Murt, Attorney Sandra Roland, Dr. Willa Jones, Maryum Saifee, Djessou Kouyate, Dr. Ghada Khan, Monalisa Dugue, and Edwige Dossou-Kitti.

Friday’s Accu Weather Forecast:  High 65 Low 44 degrees, mostly sunny.

Friday Evening Silent Auction Items Provided By:  Bradley Beal of the Washington Wizards, Martha Meesseman of the Washington Mystics, airline tickets from Southwest Airlines, and attractive gift baskets donated by individuals.  Come and place your silent bid throughout the evening.  The Winners will be announced at the end of the evening.

Saturday Location:  National Sylvan Theater, on the National Washington Mall at Washington Memorial Drive, SW (Corner of 15th & Jefferson Streets, SW) Washington, D.C. 20024 (2 blocks from Smithsonian Metro Station)

Saturday Afternoon Transportation:  There is no available parking to the public.  We strongly recommend using the Washington Metro System.  Metro will open on Saturday at 7:00am.  The Orange, Blue, and Silver Lines stop at Smithsonian Station, which is only 2 blocks from the National Sylvan Theater.

Saturday Itinerary: Volunteers arrive at 10:30am for set-up. Participants assemble at 11:00a.m.; pre-walk program at 12:00noon, with Pennsylvania State Representative and 2019 GWPF Political Awardee, Thomas P. Murt in his Keynote Address; 5K Walk starts at 12:45p.m.

Saturday Attire: We recommend wearing jeans, leggings, warm shirt that your walk t-shirt can easily go over.  Try to wear very comfortable walking shoes.

  • You still have time to register as an individual participant
  • There is still time to register as a virtual participant and help raise funds (if you are unable to attend)
  • It is not too late to sponsor a team or an individual participant or sponsor the event
  • You can still be a Partner Organization with Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation in the Walk to End FGM
  • You may still register as a volunteer
