Chipotle Restaurant to Host Fundraiser for Global Woman P.E.A.C.E.

“We do more than just roll burritos. Each of our restaurants is committed to supporting local groups like neighboring schools, youth sports teams and non-profit organizations. One way we do this is by hosting fundraisers at our restaurants.”  The preceding statement is what Chipotle, the popular Mexican style grill promotes to non-profit organizations.  That statement recently caught the attention of Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation.  When non-profits partner with their local Chipotle restaurants to raise funds for their organizations, Chipotle provides digital flyers to promote their event.  They allow the non-profits to choose the Chipotle locations in their communities where they want to fundraise.  Of course, there is no guarantee that Chipotle approves every application for a fundraiser.  The application from Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation was approved.

In an effort to support the upcoming Walk To End FGM on the 21st of this month, Chipotle will host a post-walk fundraiser on Sunday, October 22nd, the day after the 5K Walk.  For four hours on Sunday, the 22nd starting at 4:00pm, every customer that presents the specially designed flyer to the cashier, Chipotle will donate Fifty Percent (50%) of all sales to Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation.  The customers may present the flyer either in print or electronic (on cell phones) form.

The fundraiser is scheduled to be held at the Chipotle in Georgetown at 3255 M Street, NW, Washington, D.C. 20007 (Next door to Coach).  Doors open at 4:00pm, and the fundraiser ends at 8:00pm that Sunday evening.  The first 10 customers to present the flyer to the cashier at the Georgetown Chipotle at 4:00pm on Sunday, the 22nd will receive prizes.  Prizes are provided by one of the 5K Walk sponsors, 4imprint.  The flyer will be placed in the giveaway bags on Saturday at the Walk To End FGM.  If you are unable to attend the fundraiser, and you receive a flyer at the Walk-A-Thon, please pass your flyer to someone else to use on Sunday.

Chipotle will not allow Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation to hand out flyers in the restaurant and in the front of the restaurant.  In order for the flyer to be honored by Chipotle, customers must enter the restaurant with flyer in hand or on an electronic device, such as a phone, tablet or laptop.  The special flyer will be available and printable on the Walk To End FGM site, FaceBook, Instagram and Twitter.  If you need the flyer emailed to you, send a request to info@globalwomanpeacefoundation.org and the flyer will be sent to your email address provided.

The absolute final deadline to reserve a hotel room at the official hotel of the Walk To End FGM, the Tysons Corner Marriott was this past Sunday, October 1st.  If you need accommodations at the hotel, you will be offered the regular rate and not the special 5K Walk negotiated rate.

The planners of the Walk To End FGM are prepared to keep participants abreast of the weather forecast for walk-day.  According to Accu-weather, the forecast for Saturday, October 21st is 71 degrees for the high and 50 degrees low, and mostly cloudy.  The forecast for Sunday, October 22nd, the day of the Chipotle fundraiser is 72 degrees high and 50 degrees low, and mostly sunny.  Since slight changes are possible in forecasts, the Planning Committee will continue to update you on the forecast weekly until walk-day.

On Sunday, October 22nd on Post-Walk Day, please make your dinner a selfless act by joining Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation for this fundraiser, to support the organization. Come in to the Chipotle at 3255 M Street NW in Washington, D.C. between 4:00pm and 8:00pm. Bring in the flyer, show it on your smartphone or tell the cashier you’re supporting the cause to make sure that 50% of the proceeds will be donated to Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation.

Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation encourages the 5K Walk participants to form teams and join in the fundraising efforts to support the post-FGM restorative surgeries for FGM survivors.  The three teams that raise the most amounts will be presented with first, second and third prizes.  The organization needs your help, with less than a month prior; they are only at 53% of this year’s goal.  The lovely first prize this year was made especially by secondary school girls in Sierra Leone, and donated by Survivor-Activist, FA Cole.  The second and third prizes were painted by the artist, Corinna Spanu and were donated to Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation for this purpose.  There are also individual prizes provided by a sponsor, 4imprint.

The pre-walk ceremony is expected to begin at 12:00 Noon, and the actual 5K Walk will commence at approximately 1:30pm.  Participants will begin to claim their t-shirts, giveaway bags and snacks at 11:00am.  Snacks consist of bananas, health bars and bottled water.  The participants can look forward to a day of excitement and awareness.  Even if you are not a walker, you will find the pre-walk ceremony of interest.  To be a part of the day, visit the site at www.globalwomanpeacefoundation.org and scroll down to the pink button, “Register for Walk”.

Attention: The U.S. government opposes FGM/C, no matter the type, degree, or severity, and no matter what the motivation for performing it. The U.S. government considers FGM/C to be a serious human rights abuse, gender-based violence, and, when done to children, a form of child abuse. It is against the law to perform FGM/C in the United States on a girl under the age of 18 or to send or attempt to send her outside the United States so FGM/C can be performed. People who violate this law can face prison time and significant immigration consequences. Additionally, anyone who performs FGM/C on a woman 18 years old or older without her consent may be charged with a crime under other laws.  If someone performed FGM/C on you, you have not violated any U.S. laws and are not at fault, call 1-800-994-9662.
