We find ourselves with only 4 days left before we gather at the National Sylvan Theater on the Washington National Mall to tell the world that FGM/C no longer has a place in the world. This weekly update will go out daily from today through Friday. If you have not already registered, it is not too late. Please visit the walk site and register at www.globalwomanpeacefoundation.org.
Weather Update: According to the latest Accuweather forecast, high temperature 65 and low 54 with sun and clouds and a 30% of drizzle. We will update the forecast each day, leading up to Walk-Day.
Transportation: We are encouraging everyone to use metro where possible to get to the Sylvan Theater. The Smithsonian Metro Station is only 2 blocks on the Orange, Blue and Silver Lines from the Sylvan Theater at 15th and Independence Avenue, SW. We are still determining what the nearest parking garage is to the Sylvan Theater. We will give you that update tomorrow, for those of you who prefer to drive to the event.
Suggested Attire: We suggest wearing a long sleeve shirt under your walk t-shirt. A pair of jeans or casual slacks would work very well with your t-shirt. The color of t-shirts is purple with pink graphic on the front, if you want to match your attire to the t-shirt.
Fundraising Update: The top 4 leading teams today continue still show Team “Rings” in 1st place; Team “Africa Schools of Kenya” in 2nd place; Team “Gandhi Global Center for Peace” in 3rd place; and while Team “MSP Club of NCA” remains in 4th place, this team has almost double its goal. Remember, 3 top prizes will be awarded this year to the 3 teams that raise the highest amount. To date, we have raised 62% of our goal. Remember, meeting 100% of our goal, we will be able to send at least 3 or 4 young ladies for surgery this year. Thanks to all registrants and teams for your support and participation!
Proceeds: The proceeds raised from the Walk To End FGM are used to support the restorative surgeries of survivors of FGM, including group and one-on-one counseling.
