Important Message About this Month’s Support Group Workshop
Instead of holding our regular support group workshop this month, we will do an outing by joining the Vacances Sans Excision Camp on Saturday, August 18th at 10:00am. The camp is about ending FGM, and our own F.A. Cole will be addressing the children at the camp this year. This camp is hosted by our partner, Inter-African Committee (IAC-USA), and Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation supports and participates every year in the camp.
Facts have proven that it is during summer school breaks that most harmful practices take place. The purpose of this camp is to focus and teach children, parents and community leaders about cultural traditions and safeguarding strategies against Female Genital Mutilation/Cutting (“FGM/C”), a heinous and violent practice that is done to little girls. The strategy is that girls can be initiated without mutilation! The camp will highlight efforts and accomplishments to date of IAC-USA and will provide the opportunity to inform a broader community in the U.S. and abroad of the work that still needs to be done.
Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation hopes you will join us on Saturday as we join our partner, IAC-USA in engaging the children to prevent the practice of FGM here in the U.S. If you have children please feel free to bring them, and they are guaranteed to have great fun. Directions: From Northern Virginia by way of the Capital Beltway (I-495), exit at the Clara Barton Parkway (exit 41) toward Glen Echo/Carderock. Keep right to take the ramp toward Glen Echo Park/Washington/Clara Barton National Historical Site. Merge onto Clara Barton Parkway. Take the exit toward Cabin John. Directions: From Silver Spring, Maryland & Parts beyond by way of the Capital Beltway (I-495), merge onto the Capital Beltway/I-495 W toward Northern Virginia. Merge onto River Road/MD-190 E via exit 39 toward Washington. Turn right onto Wilson Lane/MD-188. Turn left onto MacArthur Boulevard. 7300 MacArthur Boulevard is on the right.
