Topic of the month: Mental Health after FGM

About the Facilitator: Willa Jones is licensed as a professional counselor and is certified as a school psychologist in the District of Columbia. A parent educator for more than twenty years, Dr. Jones is passionate about helping families pursue healthy, loving, and satisfying relationships. Dr. Jones completed her doctoral degree in clinical psychology at Howard University in 1997. She has held memberships in the American Psychological Association, the Association of Black Psychologists, and the District of Columbia Mental Health Counselor’s Association. Since its inception in May 2012, Dr. Jones has served as a member of the Mayor’s Youth Bullying Prevention Task Force. She has been a school psychologist since 2000, employed for most of those years at the Elsie Whitlow Stokes Community Freedom Public Charter School. Since completing her training in 2009, Dr. Jones has provided numerous workshops to parents and colleagues, with the aim of teaching them how to identify and intervene in instances of bullying behavior. Prior to working in school environments, Dr. Jones provided in-patient and out-patient behavioral intervention services to adults receiving treatment for chemical dependency. These services included individual, couples, group, and family therapy.
