In October 2015 Global Woman P.E.A.C.E. Foundation launched the Global Woman Awards, to recognize the exceptional work of individuals in the advocacy of the empowerment of women and girls. The Nominating and Planning Committees realized that there are people who do a great deal to protect girls and women from various types of violence, including female genital mutilation (FGM), but their efforts and work go unrecognized. When the Foundation began to recognize Awardees, only a framed paper certificate was given to the 2015 and 2016 Honorees. In 2017, they graduated to a walnut plaque, and in 2018, the plaque was improved to an 8×10 personalized walnut plaque with gold trimmings, and the GWPF logo with the name of the Awardee, the category, and date inscribed on a gold plate.
